We Believe . . .

"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all."
  - Dale Carnegie

"There is nothing we like to see so much as the gleam of pleasure in a person's eye when he feels that we have sympathized with him, understood him. At these moments something fine and spiritual passes between two friends. These are the moments worth living."
 - Don Marquis

Spruce Villa operates for and in partnership with people challenged by mental and physical limitations.

Our social, professional and vocational place in life is largely determined by the way our hearing, vision, physical coordination and intellect have developed from our time of birth on through the early years of our lives. The ability of someone who may have one or more of the wide variety of known developmental handicaps is based upon the nature and severity of the injury or handicap in relationship to the understanding, acceptance and support of those around them.  Through-out recorded history we find evidence that the human race has attempted to deal with this reality in an infinite number of ways.

History points out primitive cultures, as well as in developed societies, members of the whole community provided natural support for individuals that were different and their families without regard for compensation or help. Fortunately, we are living in a society and time where medical advances and the willingness of communities means that individuals experiencing disabilities are returning and welcomed to the natural environments of community, family and home.

Spruce Villa has been a proud participant in this movement since 1974. Our partnership with Marion, Polk and Linn Counties, as well as the State of Oregon, has provided for the care and support of approximately 170 people enabling them to lead successful lives in their own communities.

Collaboration and teamwork are the hallmarks of leadership at Spruce Villa, Inc. The Administrative team is lead by Sheila Barker, Executive Director and comprised of Susan Meshelle, Administrative Director, Patricia Seeber, RN, Health Care Director, Joy Simmons, Residential Director, Pamela Hewitt, Employment Director and Nancy L. Glass, LCSW, Clinical Services Director.  This team (with a combined experience of nearly 100 years with Spruce Villa) oversees the day-to-day operations of Spruce Villa, Inc. while developing opportunities to meet the challenge of providing "Exceptional Services for Exceptional People."
