We Believe . . .

"Exceptional people tap into their deep courage when faced with adversity and step immediately into the solution, even when the solution takes them into unfamiliar territory."
     - Jeffery Combs

"The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”
- Scott Hamilton

Spruce Villa offers individualized supports and services within group living arrangements, individual living arrangements, competitive employment, supported employment, day volunteer and recreation options. Supports and services include, but not limited to: daily living skills, health care management, work skills training, money management, recreation and leisure, social skills, transportation, etc.

The desired outcome of all supports and services is positive self-esteem and self-determination for those receiving services while maintaining basic health and safety for all people associated with Spruce Villa.

All individuals receiving services have the right to grow intellectually, socially, vocationally, spiritually and recreationally to their fullest potential. Each individual is entitled to the full range of constitutional freedoms including autonomy, dignity and the right to privacy. Spruce Villa supports these rights by promoting interdependence, productivity, well-being, inclusion in community affairs, and empowerment to seek and achieve personal goals.

Spruce Villa recognizes that all people are "exceptional," each having their own unique talents and points of view. Spruce Villa highly values those Board members, employees, advocates, families, donors and the individuals that we serve, that volunteer or offer their skills for the betterment of Spruce Villa as a whole. Their efforts are supported by:

  • Encouraging creative ideas and initiatives
  • Developing and providing resources to enable us to identify and apply our skills
  • Acknowledging that mistakes that create learning are as valuable as success
  • Publicly celebrating successful effort

Spruce Villa provides opportunities for employees and individuals receiving supports to "give back" to our communities through participation in volunteer activities such as the American Heart Association "HeartWalk". The Sunshine Committee is the coordinating group for such efforts.

The Human Rights Committee of Spruce Villa encourages the protection of a "glass house" environment to the individuals that receive supports. This committee, comprised of volunteers and Board members, reviews the actions of Spruce Villa employees to insure that the complexities of our work do not compromise the rights and dignity of the individuals receiving supports.

We Know . . .

"When you have a taste for exceptional people, you always end up meeting them everywhere."

- Mac Orlan

"Disability is
a  matter of perception. If you can do just
one thing well,
you're needed
by  someone."
- Martina Navratilova
